Photo Essay: Berlin’s East Side Gallery
“I painted over the wall of shame, so freedom is ashamed no more”
When I decided to visit Berlin this summer, I knew that I had to see the East Side Gallery.
The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 km section of the Berlin Wall that today functions as an International Freedom Memorial. It is the largest open air art gallery in the world and is covered in over 100 paintings by international artists.
Walking the length of the wall, and staring at the captivating paintings that represent the past and present of Berlin was inspiring, but also a bit somber.
